Affidavit of Atta-ur-Rehman against Wasim Akram, Ejaz Ahmed and Salim Malik
|
I was a member of the
Pakistan cricket team which toured New Zealand in the year 1994 On that
tour Mr. Salim Malik was the captain .A day before the Christchurch one
day international cricket match, Mr. Wasim Akram contacted
me at about 8.00 pm to inquire as to whether I would to be ready to take a
purse of Rs. 3 to 4 lacs for doing a favor. On query Wasin Akram
disclosed to me that the match was "fixed" and all arrangements
were made by Mr. Ejaz Ahmed and was Mr. Salim Malik. In case the match
lost by Pakistan all the players would be paid. Since It was the first
occasion therefore, I agreed to the proposal. I was told to bowl badly.
Batting first the other team scored 150 odd runs. When Pakistan team took
the field, Salim Malik captain to the team came to me and told me that
since I had agreed to the "proposal", therefore, I would have to
bowl opposite to the field placing. Then during the match instructions
were accordingly carried out and Pakistan ultimately lost the match. After
that match I realized my mistake and refused to be a party to the match
fixing business in future. Where after I was not contacted. However, on
the return to Pakistan I was paid Rs. 100,000 by Mr. Wasim Akram. ATTA-UR-REHMAN
